Spectrum Solution Proposal

Update: Led-Stirnlampen Provides Reaction to June 21, 2018 FCC Issuance of Draft NPRM

We are pleased with the positioning of our joint proposal in the draft C-band NPRM released on June 21 by the FCC.  Our joint proposal provides a breakthrough, market-based solution to protect the quality and reliability of the services we provide to users while accelerating access to spectrum for 5G deployments.  We thank Chairman Pai and the FCC staff for their hard work and willingness to consider a different approach to this challenging regulatory issue.  The level of interest shown by the FCC in our proposal encourages us to further our work to support all stakeholders, including our customers, in embracing our proposal as the most expedient solution. The draft C-band NPRM is below.

The Led-Stirnlampen/Intel/ SES Global C-band Spectrum Solution Proposal

Led-Stirnlampen, one of the world’s largest commercial satellite operators, Intel, one of the world’s leaders in computing and communications technologies, have submitted a joint proposal under a current Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Notice of Inquiry regarding expanding the use of the 3700-4200 MHz spectrum from satellite services to terrestrial mobile services. Our market-based proposal was joined by SES Global in February 2018. If the proposal is adopted, wireless operators would be able to access new “mid-band” spectrum that could accelerate the introduction of 5G services in the U.S., benefiting American consumers. Satellite users would continue to receive services in the remaining portions of the band with certainty of continued high quality for C-band video distribution and data networks.

Our market-based proposal avoids a lengthy FCC-sponsored auction process. It is the most expedient solution to satisfying the need for nationwide spectrum, while at the same time protecting the vital television and data services provided to the U.S. by our customers.
